Highlights from the Fall 24 HR Leadership Forum, "Cultivating a Kinder Workplace"

The semi-annual HR Leadership Forum Lunch and Learn, hosted by The Quality Coach® (TQC), took place on Wednesday at ADB Companies in Pacific, Missouri, bringing together HR professionals from various industries for an afternoon of learning, discussion, and networking. ADB's facility provided a vibrant atmosphere with excellent presentation equipment, creating the perfect setting for a productive session.

The forum kicked off with a warm welcome from TQC's Dr. Brenda Bouse and Ellen Woodruff, followed by an engaging networking activity led by Dr. Lori VanLeer and TQC coaches. Participants collaborated on a "Culture Collage," where they creatively expressed their vision of an ideal workplace culture centered on kindness.

Dr. Lori VanLeer delivered an inspiring presentation on "Cultivating a Kinder Workplace," sharing practical strategies for creating a positive and supportive work environment. She also shared eye-opening findings from SHRM’s research, highlighting that workplace incivility is on the rise. Dr. VanLeer shared the following in framing up the session topic:

"According to SHRM's Civility Index, there are 202 acts of incivility per day, and 58% of people believe society has become increasingly uncivil. Civility is defined as the formal politeness and courtesy in behavior and speech. Shouldn't be hard right?"

This research underscored the importance of cultivating respectful and kind work cultures. The session featured a checklist of the top 10 ways HR professionals and department leaders can foster a better workplace, focusing on culture building, supporting individuals and teams, and reinforcing positive behaviors and communication. Dr. VanLeer also emphasized the role of setting examples of polite and professional communication and outlined key components of an effective "Kind" communication plan.

Attendees participated in table discussions to explore these topics further and share their experiences. The event concluded with giveaways, additional networking, and our sincere appreciation for everyone who contributed to making the day a success.

A special thank you to ADB Companies for their wonderful hospitality, and to Karissa Jones and her team at Swallows Nest for catering a delicious lunch that everyone enjoyed. Their efforts added a special touch to the event.
